THOUGHTS FROM RABBI MARGIE
L’HITRAOT, BUT NOT GOODBYE
How fast the year has flown! When we first met at the Labor Day picnic, way back in September we thought we’d be together for the high holydays. Soon we discovered we’d be praying, studying and working together for the year. Strangers at the beginning, I feel like we are all old friends now.
It has been a wonderful year for me. What a treat to work with Mara, and Andrew and David Young as they prepared for their B’nai Mitzvah, to celebrate Hanukkah and Purim; a remarkable, snowed in, last-minute Purim of joy, songs and games; to be with you on Shabbat mornings and Erev Shabbat evenings, and of course to sit and eat and chat with each other. I have loved every minute of it.
There are so many people I’d like to thank for making my time with you so enjoyable, but I must single out Eileen Litchfield for her gracious and totally organized leadership of the congregation, not to mention her incredible cooking and baking; Judy Feinstein who devotes so much time and energy to our young people, giving them a Jewish education that is hard to find in such small communities; Mike Feinstein who is always there to help with whatever we need in the Temple; and Bob Agnew, whose music adds so much to our services and who was such a wonderful help for this musically challenged rabbi.
I know you will go from strength to strength with your student rabbi next year, and I look forward to keeping in touch. In Hebrew we say “Shalom” to mean “hello” and “goodbye.” I can’t bring myself to say “Goodbye” because I really hope we will meet again. So let me end with the Hebrew word used when we mean “til next time” – L’hitraot.
I have been proud to be your rabbi this year.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION & TEMPLE ANSHE EMETH
YOUTH GROUP
Religious School
By: Judy Feinstein
At 11:00 am on Sunday, April 18th, we observed a moment of silence in memory of soldiers who lost their lives defending the state of Israel. This is a custom on Yom H'Zikaron--Israel's Memorial Day.
In keeping with the celebration of Israel's Independence Day, Yom Ha'Atzmaut, we sang "Hatikvah" while standing around our lovely Israeli flag. All the students from age 4-15, plus teachers and parents, danced the "Hora and Mayim" while Jack Bargemann accompanied us on the piano. Pretty great dancers-- no one fell over or even stepped on anyone's feet too badly. Then we sampled food made in Israel or grown there. Olives, cookies and chips were the most popular with our students.
Sunday, May 16th is the final day for religious school this calendar year.

Rachel, Mara, Emily, Jack, Jason and I had fun together on Sunday. We watered the roses and weeded in the front of temple, then cleaned up some plaster in the kitchen and cleaned the trash and leaves on the basement steps. It felt good to do things for our temple community. Then we talked a little about the establishement of the state of Israel (can you guess what UN member countries voted for or against partition?) and played Apples to Apples. At 11:00 we joined Judy and the younger kids for a moment of silence for Yom Hazicharon (Israeli Memorial Day) and some fun dancing and eating to celebrate Yom Ha'Atzmaut (Israeli Independence Day). Thank you Judy! Bea, David, and Andrew--WE MISSED YOU!
Next plans:
May 16
Meet at TAE at 10:00 for ????? We will find something to do together! That is the day of the Shavuot Celebration, so we will meet first and then join in to celebrate Shavuot. The congregation is encouraged to attend at 11AM for lunch. See the information above.
May 23 – Sunday We wanted to get together with the Dayton BBYO group, but they cannot meet on Sunday mornings. So we choose this Sunday afternoon for Our HIKE! We decided to meet at Brukner Nature Center at 1:30 pm. I will contact Yale and the DJCC BBYO groups and invite anyone interested to join us. If people come--GREAT! If not, we will have fun together. Bea, Andrew, David--please talk to your Dayton youth group friends and ask them personally to join us that day! Thank you!
We also decided to open this hike up to everyone--families, other congregants, etc. So plan to be there on Sunday, May 23 1:30 at Brukner. Have your parents stay, bring your little/big brothers and sisters, and just come for a nice walk and to have fun together.
Send me a quick e-mail and let me know that you got this info! I'll see you all on MAY 1 for David and Andrew's Bar Mitzvah!
